On Sunday 7th February 2010 Jessica Watson is successfully continuing her solo voyage across the South Atlantic Ocean in her attempt to become the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop and unassisted around the world.
She has recently experienced some slightly ‘bouncy’ weather – with the impact of the wind as she just clipped the edge of a nasty weather system to her south. Her "Jess-timate"(a guess at the wind conditions) would be 40knots in the gusts!
The wind has recently been going up and down, just as expected and with everything ready well beforehand, Jessica couldn’t do much more than to just hold on and roll with it. Jessica has experienced a few gales and handling 40knots of wind has become pretty routine.
Before the current winds started, Jessica was lucky enough to be treated with some ‘company’! Actually, hundreds of dolphins! Jessica was surrounded by dolphins, in every direction right off to the horizon. Long lines of dolphins leaping out of waves, dolphins shooting off down the swell, dolphins playing on Ella's Pink Lady's bow and dolphins quietly swimming along chatting away to each other in small squeals and squeaks.
Jessica is just over 1500nm away from the Cape of Good Hope, but she'll be passing well south and clear of land! To keep track of her progress, please keep checking her website at www.jessicawatson.com.au and www.satcomgroup.com for updates.
